What does it take for your voice to be heard in political and societal discussions? The task was to explore an opportunity space for creating a second-screen experience within the NRK universe (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation). This project aimed at the live broadcast, Debatten. Debatten is a meaningful platform to engage and include viewers/the public, which can provide added value to NRK and it’s audience.

‘Designing a interactive 2’nd screen platform for Debatten, empowering viewers to actively influence the debate during live broadcast’

‘Delta’ is our proposal to this. Our idea is that viewers continuously can participate in polls, comment sections, and ask/vote on questions during the actual broadcast. The result of these interactions will further be discussed in the live broadcast, to give the people a ‘voice’ in the discussion.

We maintained strong contact with the editorial team for Debatten throughout the project and the in-house designers at NRK. This was valuable to explore the possibilities, identify challenges and limitations, and to map out the interactive content in the service. We also had the opportunity to get ‘behind the scenes’ in the Studio, which was useful in understanding the logistical challenges and opportunities for using the studio screens. We continuously tested the experience on the target group, aiming to assess and implement frequent adjustments and iterations throughout the process. Interviews and insights from our desired target group, were provided by NRK, confirming and refuting hypotheses along the way.
